About this development
Construction of the Banana deepwater container port and associated infrastructure on Banana Creek, north bank of the Congo River mouth, approximately 8km southeast of Muanda, Kongo Central Province, Democratic Republic of Congo. Project value is estimated at $1–1.2 billion. Scope of works: Construction of a 600-meter quay with an 18-meter draft to accommodate the largest container vessels. Development of a 25 - 30 hectare container yard with a capacity of 450,000 TEU annually and 1.5 million tons of general cargo. Establishment of multimodal logistics infrastructure, including connections to a free trade zone and road/rail links to urban centers like Kinshasa, Boma, and Matadi. Installation of advanced port technology and equipment for efficient cargo handling. Potential dredging and marine works to ensure deep water access. Environmental mitigation measures to address impacts on the adjacent Mangroves Marine Park.
