About this development
Construction of the Gecko solar photovoltaic energy facility on Portion 1 of farm Pretoria 317 (1/137) and the remainder extent of the farm Kameel Aar 315 (RE/315), located approximately 73km north of the town of Kathu, Northern Cape. The scope of work includes: PV panels mounted on either a fixed-tilt or single-axis tracking structure; inverters and transformers; low voltage cabling between the PV panels and inverters; security fence around the project development area with security and access control; camera surveillance; 33kV cabling between the project components and the facility substation; 33/132kV onsite facility substations between 1 to 2 ha (per substation); two Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS): with a footprint of 5.65ha on 1/317 and a footprint of 5.74ha on RE/315; site offices and maintenance buildings, including workshop areas for maintenance and storage as well as parking for staff and visitors; laydown/staging area on-site in front of mounting structures during installation; temporary store area close to site entrance (less than 2ha); access roads (up to 6m wide); internal distribution roads (up to 4m wide) on both project sites with a total distance of 32.8km on 1/317 and 37.12km on RE/315; temporary concrete batching facility and stormwater management infrastructure.
