The Lobito Corridor is a 1 300km rail and infrastructure project stretching from the Angolan port of Lobito to mining regions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Zambia. The first phase of the venture involves refurbishing an existing 1 300km (800 mile) railway through Angola and extending it into the Democratic Republic of Congo’s mining heartland, to facilitate exports of copper and cobalt through the Atlantic coast. A second phase would link Zambia to Lobito. The works entail the construction of a 550km rail line in Zambia from the Jimbe border to Chingola in the Zambian Copperbelt, as well as 260km of main feeder roads within the corridor.
