Project overview
About this development
Construction of new accommodation at the Anglo American Engineering Skills Training Centre on Ward Street, Randfontein, Gauteng. Strip foundations will be used to support all walled areas. Strip footings will be excavated to the recommended depths. Bottom of all trenches will be compacted. All walls will be of loadbearing brickwork, 230/110mm thick solid burnt clay brick walls. Minimum compressive strength of 14Mpa and Class II mortar. Brick-force reinforcement will be placed in all courses above footings and thereafter in every 4th course. Brick force in all 4 layers above doors and windows and underside of slabs. Surface beds will be 100mm thick and will be Class 30Mpa/19mm concrete with mesh Ref No 100. Surface beds will be cast on an even (no protrusions) compacted mattress. A 250-micron plastic membrane is to be placed on the compacted material before casting the surface beds. The membrane is there to assist with curing and creep of the cast concrete. Sawn and isolation will be provided. Roof structures will consist of timber truss construction (design and supply) and steel sheeting. Shop layouts will be presented for comments and approval. As the new accommodation blocks are to be constructed on an existing developed site the scope of the civil work will entail the on-site management of any stormwater runoff from the new structures. New sewer and water lines will be required for the new ablution areas within the structures. The GPS coordinates are -26.1688288, 27.7160896
