About this development
Construction of the Magpie PV 1 Photovoltaic Solar Energy Facility on Portions 1 and 5 of the Farm Vaalspruit No. 115; and the Remainder of Portion 3 of the Farm Zandspruit No. 2, Registration Division HT, approximately 25km north-east from the Newcastle CBD in the KwaZulu-Natal Province. The facility will comprise of PV modules and mounting structures, inverters and transformers, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), site and internal access roads (between 6 and 10m wide), IPP (facility) substation and Eskom switching station, internal cabling to link the facility, operation and maintenance buildings including a gate house, ablution facilities, security building, control centre, offices, warehouses and workshops for storage and maintenance and temporary and permanent laydown area and will have a contracted capacity of up to 240MW and will cover approximately 645ha. The GPS has been estimated at Farm Vaalspruit 27°40'18.5"S 30°04'58.5"E
